Dear Readers,
First let me say, I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas or a Happy Hannukkah/Kwanza! I hope that Santa was very good to one and all as I know he was to my family and I.
Secondly,I am sorry I have been AWOL from my blog. As many of you know, I have been quite sick since before Thanksgiving. I am now starting to come 'round, though and hope to be bouncing off the walls again very soon.
Thirdly...its time to move on to new business! Guess who was elected to be President of the QAC Republican Club??!! I am thrilled to tell you, I was! Patrick McLaughlin is Vice President and Dan Worth is Secretary. Barb Pivec has graciously offered to be Treasurer, but as we have no funds as yet, there is nothing to "treasure", lol. Rest assured, there will be, though.
There will be an Executive Board "brainstorming" session at my house this coming Thursday. If anyone has any ideas for Outreach Programs, Fundraisers, or Speakers, please email me directly via the link to the right of this post.
Word on the street has it that Centreville's Wharf *may* be bought by the County. I cannot tell you how happy this concept makes me. I hate to see the town's only waterfront property developed into something that does not benefit the public directly. Maybe Santa will grant me one last wish and the county will buy the property and put the amphitheater that I have been dreaming of, in. Probably dreaming too big-- but one would hope that if the rumors are true, the county will find a positive use for the property. It never made any sense to me why we would be spending thousands and thousands of dollars to clean up the Corsica, only to turn around and dump thousands of pounds of fill in the river to build office buildings.
By the way...several people have been testing the waters with me to see if I have changed my stance on growth. For the record, it is exactly as it was last Spring when I ran for Town Council. I believe in SENSIBLE growth. Don't start building developments or commercial endeavors without a SOLID plan for the infrastructure. I am not for ZERO growth...that is a fantasy...of course, we will be growing! It should just be planned much better than many of the developments that are currently in process. In my development, we are still waiting for the Arsenic Treatment Plant that was legally required to be in place (and was announced FIVE years ago) in January of 2006. I then, heard the developer tell our Town Council it would be ready in June. Then I heard December. I admit, I am out of the loop on where it stands but I have not heard anything from anyone recently about it...so I am thinking, we are not going to have it anytime this month.... See what I mean about PLANNING? I love my development but the thing should not have been allowed to be built without a solid, practical plan for the schools, water/sewer etc..
As soon as the Club meets and decides on a few things, I will post those updates here, so stay tuned.
Thats it for this post. More as I come across it.
Happy New Y'all!!!
